So, you ride a 500?

More like a 900 V-Twin…

So, Flo from Progressive is a bad ass… :)

Saw this commercial while watching a show about mega yachts…  Cute commercial.  I need to sell a bunch of chaps in order to buy one of these boats… ;)   And my high-end Ducati…

Found a nifty contest site…

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

SO, I was trolling around the internet for contest sites that I could submit our latest free give-away to (free pair of Biker Rain Chaps)…  And the vast majority of them mandate that you link back to their site, from your contest page, just to get listed on their site.

I find that to be a load of bull poop.  I mean, it’s their site, they can do what they want, but I find it hard to believe that Fortune 1000 companies will allow a link back from their site or pay the cheesy prices that these sites mandate…

None the less, I found a very cute little site with a kick-ass domain name which is totally free…  It’s http://www.contestguide.comKudos on the domain name!!

Very simple…  But it works.  Seems as though their revenue comes from a tiny little Google Ads banner on the top…  Very tasteful compared to the other sites which beat you about the head and neck with the ads…

Anyway, like I said, check them out and, if you know of one, submit a contest.

Could 3 wheels be better than 2 or 4???

This is absolutely incredible!  I want one!!!

I wonder how much they cost!!!

Where’s innovation like this from American auto manufacturers? Perhaps this is why they are being handed their hats and their lunches…

Motorcycle Tires

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Did you know a new motorcycle tire could be many years old? Even more scary, did you know that motorcycle tires become unsafe after only a few years?

I didn’t realize this. Being a chemist by training, I should have know. Rubber, whether it’s vulcanized or not, oxidizes over time. This makes it brittle (read, “less pliable”).

No matter what your using the “rubber” for, crunchy rubber is bad…

The thing I didn’t know was that it only takes a motorcycle tire 6 years to degrade to a point of being relatively unsafe. Think about this… This is a problem in the auto industry where people are buying tires ALL OF THE TIME!

How often do you think a bike shop’s tire inventory turns? Freaky…

Anyway, check out the whole scoop. It was covered on Nightline or something like that. Here’s the link: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897.

Moral of the story is that you can tell the age of the tire by the last digits of the really long, cryptic number on the tire. A number like 241 would mean the tire was made in the 24th week of 1991 whereas a number like 3201 would be a tire made in the 32nd week of 2001.

Go outside and check your car tires and your motorcycle tires. The video also shows where a tread shred at 70 mph can send even a professional driver into an unrecoverable slide.

Scarey. Check out the video and let me know what you think and how old your tires are.

Ride safe and ride dry with Biker Rain Chaps

So, I’m torn…

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Okay, so I’m going to be completely honest here.

I, Ray, do not own a bike.  Mitch, the creator of Biker Rain Chaps and the owner of Biker Rain Chaps, Ltd. does.  Actually, he owns two.  But me, not so much.

I used to have one, if that’s what you want to call it.  It was more like a $400 death trap I picked up after I got out of college.  The thing shook when I took it above 60 miles per hour.  It was fun around town, but scared the hell out of me on the highway so I never really got much highway time in…  Some time around the birth of my daughter, I gave the bike to my lawyer for his son as a “gift” and, since then, have been bikeless…

So, somewhere along the line, Mitch brought me on as his interactive savant…  Or “Evangelist” as I like to be called ( :) ) and now I’ve got the itch.

I’m still working on my wife but I think, if I take the motorcycle safety course, she might find it possible to let me get a bike.  I think some level of safety training, coupled with a fairly hefty life insurance policy, might persuade her.

As such, I’m shopping/drooling over various bikes.  My budget is sub-10K.  The bikes I have in mind are the Buell Blast, Ducati Monster or some sort of crossover bike since I like hiking so much.

What are your thoughts?  What kind of bike do you have and would you advocate it to others?  Let me here your opinion, I’m all ears!!!
